Newtown, Mass.-based UPC Wind, a wind farm developer and owner, has hired Michael Jacobs as vice president of transmission. In his new role, he will be responsible for the evaluation and implementation of transmission planning for all of the company's projects.

"We're thrilled to welcome Michael to our team, and believe his over 20 years of experience and his focus on the wind industry will bring great insight as we continue to expand our presence in America's growing renewable energy market," says Paul Gaynor, UPC Wind's president and chief executive officer.

Prior to joining UPC Wind, Jacobs served as deputy policy director for the American Wind Energy Association (AWEA), where he was responsible for creating the AWEA Transmission Committee. Before working for AWEA, he was involved in electricity transmission matters at TransEnergie U.S. Ltd.
