The Spanish Ministry for the Environment has approved the plans for Gamesa's wind farm in the Dominican Republic, the third to be built by the company abroad by virtue of the Clean Development Mechanism under the Kyoto Protocol. The mechanism allows CO2 emission credits to be obtained in exchange for the building of renewable energy plants in developing countries.

This new wind farm - El Guanillo - with a power capacity of 64.6 MW, joins Gamesa's other two wind projects which have been approved for Mexico. The three sites total 428.6 MW capable of generating carbon credits.
