S. Korean firm interested in building wind power plants in N. Sulawesi

Manado, North Sulawesi (ANTARA News) - South Korea`s IR Winpower Co. Ltd. is interested in building wind power plants in a number of small islands in North Sulawesi province.

"The company has conducted a feasibility study in a number of islands. In the first stage, it will build a wind power plant on Para Island, Sangihe district, where local people live without electricity," Head of the South Sulawesi Investment and Regional Cooperation Coordination Board Vreeke Najoan said here Wednesday.

The results of the study suggested that the island was a suitable location for the construction of a wind power plant with a capacity of 6 megawatts, he said.

The construction of the power plant would cost an estimated Rp9 billion, he said.

North Sulawesi was facing a power shortage of 60 megawatts as the existing power plants only produced 135 megawatts, he said.
