LM Glasfiber said Tuesday that it has officially opened a new wind turbine blade factory in Dabaspet, Karnataka in India.
The new factory will produce about 800 blades per year and create employment for about 400 people when ramp-up is completed, the company said.
The Denmark-based firm has just begun work on a wind turbine blade factory in the Port of Little Rock. That plant will eventually employ 1,000 people, officials say.
LM Glasfiber said Karnataka is a central area for the Indian wind energy market, and that the Dabaspet location offers "excellent logistical options," trained manpower and a developed supplier base.
LM Glasfiber officials said that in 2006, the Indian wind energy market was the world's third largest. They said it is a market with "a very large potential."
